Eyesight Check Requirements:
Safety First! You must be able to read an old style
number plate from a distance of 20.5 metres or the new style number plate from
20 metres. The new style number plates were introduced on 1st September
2001 and are recognisable by the prefix of two letters then two numbers, eg.
AB01 ABC.
If you need to wear glasses or corrective lenses to read the number plate then
the law requires you to wear them whenever you are driving.
On the day of your test, if you are unable to read the number plate on the third
attemp after the precise distance has been measured out by the test examiner you
will not be able to take your practical driving test and this will be recorded
as a fail.
